Kirstie Alley knows that, for the last decade, if not more, we have been paying more attention to her yo-yo-ing weight than we have to her acting career, and while that doesn’t exactly bother her, she’s determined to be “just” an actress again.

So the first step towards that is getting back in shape: after signing with Jenny Craig for the second time in 2014, Kirstie is now 50 pounds (22.6 kg) thinner, more confident and definitely healthier. She is also more convinced that she can maintain her weight lost “for ever” because she approached her goal with a new attitude.

Kirstie shows off slimmer figure

The other day, Alley spoke to People magazine and revealed that her initial weight loss goal was of 30 pounds (13.6 kg), but she somehow managed to do better than that and drop 50 pounds (22.6 kg) to a size 8 to 6.

Hours after the interview came out, the actress sat down for a chat with Matt Lauer on The Today Show on NBC, which also proved to be the perfect occasion for her to show off her newly svelter figure. Video of the interview is available below.

Given the amount of attention she’s been receiving for her weight loss and her many failed attempts at staying in shape, Kirstie knows that she risks sounding like a broken record every time she boasts about the weight loss and the healthier lifestyle she discovered thanks to whatever diet.

However, she stresses, this time, it’s different: this time, she plans on sticking to the figure she has now because she wants to be healthy for the rest of her life. She also wants more work in film and television, and you can’t obviously get that unless you feel and look your best.

A new approach, more chances of success

So how come she’s so positive that this will be the last time she loses weight? It’s simple, she explains: she changed her approach to weight loss by not visualizing just the goal anymore, but the journey as a life-changing one.

“Before I've had more of a view of get to the goal, have the goal. And this time I thought, ‘Okay what is the goal? What is the time span of the goal?’ So I really looked at it as, this is my life, and until I'm dead basically, I'm going to keep this weight,” she says.

In other words, she didn’t go back on Jenny only thinking that the program would help her be skinny again and visualizing that weight loss goal, but because she realized that she couldn’t spend the rest of her life being overweight. Thinking this way, she turned the goal into a lifetime one.

An exciting 2015

Now that she’s thinner and healthier (and happier), Kirstie is looking forward to 2015: she tells Lauer she wants to work more so we’re assuming she will be putting herself out there more, in the hope that offers will start pouring in.

She also wants to continue taking good care of herself and to have fun.

She also reveals to Lauer one of her resolutions for 2015, to hook up with some guy. Kirstie is 62 years old, but clearly she’s still very young at heart.
