Fresh off a spectacular stint on the latest season of Dancing With the Stars, Kirstie Alley returns to ABC, this time to make her comeback to television. She’s just signed on to do a pilot for a new comedy series, described as a sort of updated version of “Roseanne.”

Deadline reports that the project has been in the works for quite some time, but it was revamped to better suit Kirstie’s style and personality.

About a month ago, the original script was re-written and presented to Alley, who read it loved it. She’s officially on board.

For the time being, she’s only agreed to do the pilot, with hopes to come back for an entire season (and perhaps even more) if audiences react positively to it – and they probably will, given how popular Alley is these days thanks to DWTS.

“Following her memorable run on Dancing With the Stars last spring, Kirstie Alley is returning to ABC as the star of a new comedy project,” Deadline informs.

“I’ve learned that ABC is finalizing the deals for a pilot order to The Manzanis, a multi-camera family comedy written by sitcom veterans Marco Pennette and Dave Flebotte, with Alley attached to star. ABC Studios and studio-based Brillstein Entertainment are producing,” says the e-zine.

“The sitcom is described as a new take on Roseanne, and stars Alley as a very opinionated wife/mother who, along with her family, the Manzanis, moves to repressed country-club town,” the publication further notes.

For the time being, these are all the details on the possible new sitcom. “The Manzanis” hasn’t even been officially announced, and that’s because it will probably be formally introduced once the pilot is picked up.

According to the info provided by Deadline, it sure seems that producers are convinced that ABC will pick the new series up, especially with Alley on board.
