New firmware for Kingston's nifty range of solid state drives ready

Kingston reports that some of the solid state drives in the HyperX series, namely the SH100S3 series, had sometimes returned some errors and thus new firmware has been readied to correct and eliminate them.

Users who have ever experienced BSODs or temporary drive disappearance during various sleep modes are advised to update to the new firmware version, revision 501. The new firmware is said to offer "enhanced reliability during power cycles" and offer improved write performance , with better TRIM throughput, as well.

There is no word on those SSDs which have not been plagued by these errors, but like with pretty much any firmware update, installing new software can't be bad.

Prior to installing the new firmware, users are advised to set their SATA controller to AHCI mode and have the SSD plugged into a native SATA port, as third-party ports will not allow updates. Procedure details are to be found in the very downloaded files suitable for your drive model, or you can check this document. Download the Kingston HyperX SSD firmware 501. Download the Kingston Toolbox 1.0.

Full data backup is highly advised.
