In today's high performance enthusiast market nothing can get out without being overclocked, so Kingston has just released its already familiar HyperX DDR memory fan in all new black colorway that should satisfy those modders that were disappointed this was only available in blue.

Apart from the color change, not many other things have changed, this black fan being identical in performance and specifications to the previous blue-colored HyperX memory cooler that was launched back in June 2009.

Built in order to optimize airflow around the memory modules, this HyperX cooler comes with dual 3,000rpm 60mm fans that are rated at about 25dBAm, so these should prove to be pretty quiet in operation, if Kingston's claims hold true.

As for its exterior design, except the new black colorway available, this thing features anodized aluminum construction, the two fans being illuminated by eight small blue LEDs.

Unlike its blue brother, however, this new cooling fan won't be available in a kit form, the original HyperX Fan coming bundled together with a variety of memory kits for dual or tri-channel setups, available in 4GB or 6GB versions, although this has also retained its compatibility with both tri and dual-channel memory platforms.

Unfortunately, for those of you that don't have HyperX memories in their system, this cooler isn't compatible with DDR3 kits sold by other manufacturers apart from Kingston so you won't be able to use this in order to cool your memories.

Pricing wise, the HyperX Fan is available right now at $23.00 US and it's backed by a one-year warranty, so I am glad to report this has remained at the same price level as its older counterpart.

All in all, I would say this is a nice option if you want a cool looking system that you can show to your friends and carry with you over at LAN parties, but, I for one, will most certainly keep my 80mm fans around for when the need arises to cool my DDR3 memory modules.
