Kingston - all about memory

Most of you have probably heard about Kingston, whether you're using their USB Flash Drives or their memory modules. However, there's a lot more to be said about this company, since chances are that the firm's components are the driving force behind your A-brand desktop or notebook PC. And this is not just PR talk from the company, as the statement is backed up by a very serious study from iSupply.

We've had the chance to attend a press event held by Kingston, in which the company provided an overview of its global results, as well as some insights on the European and Eastern European markets. And besides showcasing some of their most interesting products (memory cards, DRAM modules, flash drives, they had it all), the firm's representatives also lifted the curtain a bit as far as market shares or other related information were concerned.

One of the main points tackled within this discussion was related to the company's DRAM modules. Thus, as Mr. Pawel Smigielski, Regional Manager for Eastern Europe, informed us, a recent study by technology monitoring company iSupply has revealed the very interesting fact that Kingston Technology occupied in 2007 the top spot on the DRAM (dynamic random access memory) market, as far as the turnover was concerned.

The study has revealed that the sales figure of Kingston Technology revolves around 2.2 billion USD, which translates into around 27% of the whole DRAM market (not taking into account either Flash modules or OEM products).

However, the flash module business is also a very important segment for Kingston, as it has helped it achieve an overall sales figure of close to 4.5 billion US dollars back in 2007, 800 million more than in 2006. And they really do have what to show off in this segment as well, whether we're talking about memory cards (up to 16 GB SDHCs, just as an example) or flash drives, ranging from the ultra-speedy HyperX to the ultra-secure Vault model.

And it's all due to the employees, says John Tu, co-founder of Kingston Technology: "We allow our employees the freedom of exploiting their own potential, because we consider them to be the force behind this company. Due to their efforts and commitment, we've managed to maintain strong relationships with our partners and occupy this position on the market".

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
