During the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, Kingston has showcased one of the most interesting devices that we have laid our eyes on lately, a portable hard drive that features built-in WiFi capabilities, and allows users to stream media content right from the SSD to their iPad or iPhone.

Called the MobiSX, for now, the device is still under development, but judging by the demos run by Kingston, the technology seems to be working really nice.

In order to watch the content stored on the drive, users only have to open a web browser and point it towards the IP address of the MobiSX.

This will get them into a Kingston custom-built interface that gives them full access to the files stored on the drive.

Movies streamed right from the MobiSX will take just a few seconds to open on your iPad or iPhone screen, during the show Kingston demonstrating how the drive can stream up to three different devices simultaneously.

Outside of the iPad or iPhone, Kingston's creation can work with any other gadget that comes with WiFi connectivity, including laptops and other smartphone or tablets.

When constantly streaming multimedia content, the device's battery life will top out at approximately four hours, putting it in stand-by raising this value to about six hours.

The internal battery can be recharged through a mini-USB port.

According to Legit Reviews, the Device will become available in 16GB and 32GB versions sometime in the second quarter of 2011, prices starting around $99.

In addition, higher capacity drives may follow soon, Kingston even planning an enterprise option of the MobiSX.

Compared to the regular drive, this will feature improved hardware and better battery life, allowing up to 10 users to stream from it at once and is scheduled to become available in late 2011.
