Adoption of flash storage has become increasingly widespread and even hard disk drives are beginning to sense the remote threat that solid state drives are becoming, as NAND Flash chips get cheaper and controllers get faster. Also, in the case of flash drives in particular, not only performance, but also security and portability determine just what value a product has. Kingston has decided to take the middle way for once and, as such, has brought out a pair of new DataTraveler flash drive series.

One of the new lines, the less colorful one, goes by the name of DataTraveler 160 and is composed of models with capacities ranging between 4GB and 32GB. They are designed to interact with computers bearing the USB 2.0 connectivity and measure 72.10 by 13.64 by 22.83 mm.

Furthermore, they employ a capless design with a rubberized thumb grip, with the connector itself retractable. As for actual performance, the products achieve read and write speeds of 10MB/s and 5MB/s, respectively.

The DataTraveler 101 G2 is made up of five members, each of which is distinguished from the others through two traits: their enclosure's color and the actual storage capacity. The 2GB model is colored lime whereas the 4GB version is cyan and the 8GB model red. Furthermore, the 16GB drive is black. Finally, the 32GB flash device is housed inside a purple casing. All five measure 57.18 by 17.28 by 10 mm and have a swivel cap that safeguards the USB connector itself.

The DataTraveler 101 G2 have read and write speeds of 10 MB/s and 5MB/s, respectively, the same as the performance as those of the DataTraveler 160 As for pricing, the former demand between 7 and 68 Euro, depending on capacity, whereas the latter are sold for between 11 Euro and 70 Euro.
