It definitely helps that dual-port USB designs have become so popular

Makers of flash drives have to keep offering new things, just like everyone else in a capitalist regime, and the latest “new” feature to become popular is the dual-USB design, along with OTG.

Kingmax has just released a flash drive with both, called PJ-02, which is a sort of successor to the PJ-01 but with a broader customer base.

We say broader because unlike the PJ-01 that only has a Micro USB port, the PJ-02 also has a full size USB connector.

Thus, it can do everything that the PJ-01 can, but also works as a normal flash drive on computers and anything else with a normal port, thanks to the connector on the other end.

USB OTG is short for USB On-the-Go and defines flash drive units that can use smartphones and tablets as host devices, like they would a PC.

PJ-02 uses the micro-USB port for this. Sadly, only the USB 2.0 standard is supported.

Speaking of which, the PC operating systems that the Kingmax PJ-02 can work under are Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac OS V10.6.1, and Linux kernel V2.6x.

The mobile devices will have to run Android in order for OTG to work on them.

“You can store music files easier, share data friendly, and save documents free,” Kingmax says in its press release.

The new flash drive measures 30.7 mm x 12 mm x 4.5 mm / 1.2 x 0.47 x 0.17 inches and weighs 20 grams / 0.70 oz.

The top transfer speed is of 480 Mbps (as dictated by the USB 2.0 standard) and the top capacity is of 32 GB (there are 8 GB and 16 GB models too).

Kingmax ships the PJ-02 in a silver case, with a cap for the micro-USB connector. A 5-year warranty is part of the deal. Sadly, the price hasn't been discovered yet.
