It was only a matter of time before Kignmax acted again on the storage market, and the time has finally come, the company choosing to update an already existing product collection.
Some consumers might remember that, a few months ago, Kingmax released the ED-01 family of USB flash drives.
With capacities of up to 32 GB, they seem to have earned their status as product line popular enough to warrant an expansion.
This is in no small part owed to the existence of the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface standard, the most recent iteration of Universal Serial Bus.
For those that need a reminder, USB 3.0 has a theoretical maximum data transfer speed of about 5 Gbps (4.8 Gbps), which is ten times that of USB 2.0.
That said, Kingmax presented two new models for the ED-01 series, with capacities of 64 GB and 128 GB, respectively. They measure 74.5 x 20 x 9 mm (L x W x H) and have a weight of 10.5 grams.
Naturally, backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 is present, since it would not do to have the drives be incompatible with the majority of systems out there.
Of course, when used on the older interface, the transfer speed will, understandably, be limited to 480 Mbps.
Other assets of the Kingmax ED-01 are the Clip-Cap design (makes it harder to lose the cap), the LED light indicator and the black shell.
Unfortunately, even though the outfit gave the formal press release, it did not include any pricing details, though it did mention a five-year warranty.
Once they start selling, customers can expect data rates of up to 66 MB/s and 41 MB/s when reading and writing, respectively.
