Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the role playing game that will be published by Electronic Arts and is being worked on by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, will need to compete with the sure hit that is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and one leading developer believes that his game is up to the task.

Craig Krstolic, who is an associate producer working on the game at Big Huge Games, has told Games Radar that, “I’ve looked at this, and if I look at something like Oblivion, it’s very comparable in size.”

He added, “They’re slightly different scales, though. In Oblivion you have the central city and the area around that. We have a fairly vast area that’s spread out a little bit more with a lot smaller cities and towns within it.”

The developers have previously said that they are planning to have five big regions in Kingdoms of Amalur, each with its own distinct personality and architecture, each of them tasking the player designed to vary the experience of the player.

Since the new role playing game was announced the leader of 38 Studios has said that he plans to deliver an experience that mixes the best aspects of God of War, when it comes to the combat, and Oblivion, when the world is involved.

Players will have a character that is a blank slate and will be able to shape him at will towards a number of destinies, without having to deal with the class system of other role playing games.

Kingdoms of Amalur will be launched on PC via Origin, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and Xbox 360 from Microsoft on February 7 in the United States and three days later in Europe.

Electronic Arts and the developers will use the Kingdoms universe to then create a MMO role playing game.
