Players who have felt a loss of freedom when forced to pick a class at the beginning of their role playing experience will be happy to learn that the upcoming Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will give them more space to express their personality.

Will Miller, who is the system designer at Big Huge Games, stated in a develop diary that, “The Destiny system came from a rejection of a very common convention in RPGs.”

He added, “We pick our class at the beginning of the game. You’re basing that decision on information you don’t have. You’re not sure how a rogue is going to play – even if you’re a seasoned RPG veteran, you’re not sure how this calls is gonna play through the long play of the game.”

Players will be able to get abilities from three trees and shape their character how they like, unlocking new destinies as they play.

Kingdoms of Amalur will be launched in early February 2012 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
