The launch of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was just the simplest way of making gamers familiar with the universe of the franchise, which will be used in a future MMO, which is called Copernicus and will have even more lore created by well-known author R.A. Salvatore.

Speaking to Joystiq, Sean Dunn, the general manager of developer Big Huge Games, said, “All of the fiction that we pull for Reckoning comes from the intellectual property’s kind of library of information — you know, the giant R.A. Salvatore bible of story.”

He added, “I can’t talk about any plans that have not been announced, but there are certain things that make perfect sense and certain things that don’t make sense. And it has to be really high quality and it has to be really meaningful for the fans.”

R.A. Salvatore is part of a dream team of developers who worked on Kingdoms of Amalur, with the creator of the Spawn comic in charge of the overall look of the game and a former leading developer from Bethesda, connected to both The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Oblivion, handling the core game mechanics.

It’s not clear how involved the trio will be with the creation of Copernicus.

The MMO at the moment lacks an official announcement and a potential launch window, but the development teams at 38 Studios and at Big Huge Games have mentioned it regularly, pointing at how it will allow gamers to explore an even deeper role-playing game universe.

At the moment Big Huge Games is working to make sure that the in-game statistics for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning are fixed as gamers have spent so much time with the game that the amount of data exceeeded expectations.

There are also plans to launch more content for the game via download, designed to give players more story elements to explore.
