Suppose 1,000 years from now somebody decides that they want to check out King Richard III's grave. Thanks to a team of scientists who have taken the time to map it in 3D, they will be able to do so.

Live Science reports that, when working on creating this 3D reconstruction of the late monarch's resting place, the researchers used both laser scanning and digital photogrammetric technologies and techniques.

Otherwise put, they did not descend into the grave themselves in order to measure every point by hand, but allowed various instruments to survey the area and then piece together a 3D representation of the terrain.

Check out the final result in the picture above.

Richard III's body was discovered under a parking lot in Leicester in 2012. Since then, researchers have been busy exploring the area, and have thus far managed to unearth numerous bits and pieces of medieval pottery.
