Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie is a first-person shooter-action-adventure game, based on the 2005 film King Kong. It is a collaboration between the film's director, Peter Jackson, and the famed video game designer Michel Ancel (Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil), remarkable in that such true, outstanding, creative partnerships are rare in the realm of game development.
The title has been released for a wide variety of consoles, including the PlayStation 2 and the handheld Nintendo DS, in North America, on November 17, 2005. In the United States, the Game Boy Advance version is titled Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World.
King Kong has been originally announced for all major game systems. However, out of the current seventh generation, the Xbox 360 is the only to have received the game. No PlayStation 3 or Wii versions have been announced, as they were not available at the release of the game. The game's plot is significantly different from that of the film, as far as the facts it is based upon are concerned.
In 1933, film producer Carl Denham gets hold of a mysterious map, which reveales the secret location of a rather large island, known as the Skull Island, a place located in the far reaches of the Indian Ocean. This is where he finds a giant gorilla, which he names King Kong, and which he captures in order to become famous across the world. Of course, this plan goes awfully wrong, as the ape wreaks havoc in New York City, and climbs the famous Empire State Building.
In terms of gameplay, this title strives for realism, as it doesn't have a HUD (Head-Up Display), which normally shows the amount of life and ammo the player has left. Instead, one needs to rely on tips from Jack Driscoll, the scriptwriter who is part of the team that discovers King Kong. The game has won several awards, and has gone on to record some very decent sales. Additionally, it has gained a fair amount of fans.
HINTS
Level 1: Crabs
Carefully look at every cave, as crabs pop out of each of them.
Level 2: Crabs
Always look around you for a second cave, while you go through the rest of the level. Crabs will appear from everywhere.
Level 2: Conserving ammunition
Do not use all your shotgun shells on the huge beetles. Instead, shoot one at each bug that gets too close to you. You will have to fight a dinosaur after opening the gate.
