Video game publisher Activision Blizzard has announced that it is developing and publishing a new video game for the Kinect motion tracking system, called Wipeout in the Zone and based on the very popular television show that airs of ABC.

The game is coming exclusively to the Xbox 360 at some point during the slow summer season and players will be tasked with dodging and weaving their way around more than 30 different obstacles seen on the show, like the Big Balls and the Smack Wall Sweeper.

Activision says that there are also obstacles that are created specifically for Wipeout in the Zone, things that could not be created in the real world but work in the virtual Kinect-powered sport.

David Oxford, who is an executive working at the Pubishing division of Activision, has stated, “The show is all about absurd movement and well-timed balance, so it's a perfect fit for a Kinect game.”

The publisher also says that the hosts of the Wipeout show, John Anderson, John Henson and Jill Wagner will be included in the game, offering commentary that dynamically reacts to what the player does in the game.

At the moment, Microsoft says that the Kinect motion-tracking system, which does not use a physical controller, has already sold more than 10 million units, more than the company predicted, with video games for it reaching the same milestone.

Activision was initially cautious about Kinect, with executives saying that the company will wait and see how the devices does at retail and only then decide what kind of titles it wants to develop for it.

Ten million sales means that there are enough players that could be interested in replicating the Wipeout television show on their Xbox 360 and make money for Activision in the process.

Microsoft has promised than in 2011 more hardcore titles for Kinect will be coming from publishers.
