Just yesterday, users of Amazon Kindle HD and HDX got their Fire OS 3.1 (if you still don’t have it, you can download it via Softpedia.) Now a new software update has arrived for the Kindle Paperwhite eReader.

Since Amazon purchased the social book site Goodreads back in March, it’s no wonder that the tech giant is now pushing Goodreads integration to each and every one of its devices.

So from now on, users won’t have to leave the book they are reading to share their favorite quotes with friends on Goodreads. On top of that, they will be able to discover great new books by getting to see what others are reading and accessing their reviews and ratings.

Reading enthusiasts can port digital and printed books they have acquired through Amazon to their Goodreads account. More than that, they can update their reading developments (what they finished reading, what they read in the past, what’s on their reading list.)

The update also introduces the Kindle FreeTime function, meant to bring kids closer to literature. The feat comes with build-in parental controls so parents can set up reading goals for their kids and track progress of the set-up tasks.

When a child achieves a certain goal (such as their managing to read 1000 pages), he/she is awarded badges and an improvement report is sent to their folks.

The last enhancement introduced with the update is called Cloud Collection. Now Kindle Paperwhite users can arrange their books, newspapers and other reading materials, so they can find whatever they need swiftly anytime, anywhere.

Amazon is able to provide such a service thanks to the Whispersync technology which syncs collections onto all Kindle devices or reading apps, so you can read just about everywhere.
