Yesterday’s brief appearance on Amazon might have been a blurb, but the company is owning up and actually releases the new Kindle Paperwhite.

As reported yesterday, Amazon posted for a brief time the new Kindle Paperwhite on its website, (basically long enough for someone to take a screenshot) before taking it down again.

Now, Jeff Bezos signs a letter posted straight on the Amazon home page, presending the company’s new e-reader.

“The new Paperwhite is our best ever, with a new higher contrast display, the next generation of our built-in light, a powerful new processor, and the latest touchscreen technology,” the message reads.

Amazon’s owner then goes to brag about the brand new features the device comes with, such as the Page Flip, Goodreads integration, Vocabulary Builder and the Kindle Freetime, a new simple and engaging way to encourage kids to read.

As mentioned yesterday, the new Kindle Paperwhite is bringing on a better contrast display, better lighting, a faster processor and more receptive touch screen technology.

“Kindle is the best-selling e-reader in the world for six years running. No one is investing on behalf of readers or pushing the boundaries of hardware, software, and content for readers like the Kindle team,” Bezos states in the message.

“We continue to invest not only in new hardware like the new Kindle Paperwhite, but also in new features and benefits that make Kindle a superior service: Kindle MatchBook, Kindle Owners' Lending Library, over 400,000 books that are exclusive to the Kindle Store, Kindle Singles, Kindle Worlds, and many more,” Amazon’s boss says.

The device will be shipping starting September 30 and it will be sold for $119 / €90 (with special offers) and $139 / €105 (without the offers). The 3G version will cost $189 / €143.

Yesterday, the company also launched the Kindle MatchBook, a service that will be quite helpful for book lovers who have bought the hard copy from Amazon and now want to purchase the ebook version as well. With the new program, they will all be able to purchase the digital versions of the books with a great discount or even get them for free.
