Amazon’s heavily customized OS doesn’t seem to scare gamers off

Tablets are often advertised as being the perfect product for entertainment and that often includes games. Traditionally, the Android ecosystem has been believed to be the portal most game-lovers crave access to, due to the presence of the Google Play Store.

But a new App Annie & IDC Portable Gaming Report for the Q3 2013 shows this belief is somehow outdated, at least when it comes to tablets.

According to the information provided by the study, when they want to play, Americans prefer Amazon Kindle Fire tablets and not Android slates, even if they allow users to tap into the Google Play Store.

This is certainly an interesting finding, since the Kindle Fire tablets come sporting Amazon’s own customized operating system that features the company’s own App Store.

The survey placed Apple on top of the gamer horde, with almost 40% of people involved in the study saying they use the iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad for playing games.
