On Monday, mobile phone carrier AT&T officially announced the upcoming availability of the 4G LTE-enabled Kindle Fire HD 8.9'' tablet PC on its network, starting with April 5.

The slate will become available for purchase through the wireless carrier’s stores on that day, with 32GB of internal memory and with a price tag of $399 (310 Euro) attached to it.

However, AT&T also notes that those users who would like to grab the tablet PC with the signing of a two-year contract agreement will benefit from a $150 price cut, and will be able to buy it at only $249.

Featuring a large 8.9-inch screen that can deliver a 1920 x 1200-pixel resolution and a 254 ppi pixel density (the highest resolution of all Kindle Fire devices), the Kindle Fire HD 8.9'' should prove a great option for users interested in checking emails, reading books, or watching movies while on the go.

“Being the first carrier to connect Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD to our 4G LTE network provides the best mobile internet experience,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president of emerging devices, AT&T.

“Combining our 4G LTE with Kindle Fire HD’s rich features at an incredible price point yields a great value and experience for our customers.”

The specifications list of the device also includes a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP4 4470 processor, Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX544 @299 MHz GPU, and 1GB of RAM.

Furthermore, the slate packs Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity capabilities, and a 6000 mAh battery inside. It measures 240×160×8.8 mm (9.4×6.3×0.35 inch) and weighs 567 grams (20.0 oz).

According to Amazon, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9” can deliver up to 10 hours of battery life, while also offering access to over 23 million movies, TV shows, songs, magazines, books, and audiobooks on the go.

“We’re excited to work with AT&T to offer the 4G LTE version of Kindle Fire HD 8.9” to AT&T customers across the country,” said Mike McKenna, vice president, Amazon Kindle.

“Customers tell us they love our large-screen Kindle Fire HD for browsing the web, writing emails, watching movies, reading magazines, and more – and with AT&T’s 4G LTE technology, everything is faster and more convenient.”
