With Black Friday now over, Amazon has come out to proclaim the supremacy of its 7-inch Kindle Fire, which during this one-day shopping extravaganza managed to become not only the hottest product at Amazon.com, but also the best-selling tablet at Target.

No exact figures were put behind Amazon’s claims, but the company did say that this year, its customers purchased four times more Kindles as they did with the same occasion last year.

"Even before the busy holiday shopping weekend, we'd already sold millions of the new Kindle family and Kindle Fire was the bestselling product across all of Amazon.com,” said Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle.

“Black Friday was the best ever for the Kindle family - customers purchased 4X as many Kindle devices as they did last Black Friday - and last year was a great year.

“In addition, we're seeing a lot of customers buying multiple Kindles - one for themselves and others as gifts - we expect this trend to continue on Cyber Monday and through the holiday shopping season," concluded the company’s rep.

Amazon unveiled the Kindle Fire on September 28 and the tablet is based on a customized version of Android, that comes with a unique interface to detach itself form all the other tablets out there running this OS.

Hardware wise, the Fire has a 7-inch IPS screen with a 1024x600 resolution, Gorilla Glass coating, a dual-core processor, and all of these are fitted inside a chassis that weighs 14.6 ounces (roughly 413 grams).

The tablet comes with a wide series of multimedia services pre-installed providing its users with access to over 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, magazines, apps and games as well as with support for the Amazon Cloud and Whispersync services.

The Kindle Fire is available right now from Amazon and is priced at $199 (about 149 EUR).
