While everybody's attention has turned to the Kindle 4 and to the Kindle Fire after the release of these gadgets, Amazon still has some love left for the previous Kindle 3 eReader and has just released an firmware update for this device that enables it to work with the company's Cloud services.

The new update will bump the software to Version 3.3 and apart from the new found support for the cloud will also brings Kindle Keyboard (as the eReader ends up being called after the update) owners a series of other new features.

These include the possibility to check out any archived documents, notes and highlights from their collection of books and articles.

Add to this the Whispersync technology, that syncs all devices together to know what page you left off, as well as what bookmark and annotations you made to the document, or the new shortcut function that quickly turns on or off the Voice Guide feature and you know this is definitely one update that can't be missed.

Your Kindle will automatically get the update when the devices resumes from sleep mode provided it manages to find a 'decent' connection, but there's also the possibility of performing the update manually if you prefer a more hands-on approach. (via Uber Gizmo)
