Amazon.com has updated the iOS Kindle app to address issues related to highlighting text, as well as  a problem where the most recent page was not being saved when returning to the app.

Optimized for Apple’s iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, the Kindle app allows users to read Kindle books on the go.

“You can discover and read over 630,000 books in the Kindle Store, including the latest best sellers and new releases,” the giant online retailer states.

Apple isn’t getting all the credit, with Amazon mentioning that “You can also read your Kindle books on your Kindle, Kindle DX, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, and Android-based device.”

A feature called “Amazon Whispersync” automatically syncs the last page read across all of a user’s devices, so they can pick up right where they left off.

Bookmarks, notes, and highlights are also synced thanks to this feature.

The release notes for Kindle 2.2.1 say that the app’s developers have improved highlight sensitivity to reduce inadvertent highlights when turning pages.

As noted above, Amazon also saw to a problem where the most recent page was not saved when returning to the app.

A crash some customers experienced when highlighting a word has been addressed as well.

Finally, Amazon mentions that other bugs were dealt with, based on customer feedback.

Although compatible with all of Apple’s iOS-capable devices, it’s the iPad that Kindle targets the most.

Thanks to its big screen and crisp visuals, a new beautiful user interface was recently tailored to accomodate the size, look, and feel of the Apple tablet.

This, and other changes targeting the iPad were incorporated in similar update to the Kindle app.

For example, a new Home library view with pinch, zoom and scrolling support, and a new page turning animation that replicates the look of turning a page in a book are both iPad-specific additions.

Still, those who prefer an “unadorned reading experience” can revert to the “Basic Reading Mode” which lacks animation.
