A kindergarten student in Springfield, Ohio has been sent home over his modern hairdo, dubbed a violation of the school's dress code.

5-year-old Ethan Clos donned a mohawk as he attended classes at Reid Elementary School. After incurring a suspension, he was told that he would not be allowed back in school with the same haircut.

Mother Keshia Castle tells Dayton Daily News that she has been prompted to shave Ethan's hair off completely if she wants the suspension to be lifted. He has already missed two days of classes.

School officials cited the mohawk becoming a distraction for other students who left their seats and approached Ethan to get a feel of his new do.

“Our policy clearly states that any dress or grooming which is disruptive or distracting to the educational process is not acceptable. In this particular case, the student’s hairstyle did provide disruption to the classroom,” Superintendent Gregg Morris explains.

Ohio school authorities have suspended students for mohawks before, as was the case of 6-year-old Bryan Ruda from Parma, near Cleveland, who was told to lose the haircut in 2008.
