After keeping relatively mum on the topic of her divorce from Kris Humphries after just 72 days, Kim Kardashian is finally opening up a bit more on the failed marriage – and how she couldn't have possibly done it for money because she's a smart businesswoman. Kim was co-host on Live with Kelly the other day and, before getting to the actual co-hosting duties, she agreed to talk a bit about her controversial marriage and even more controversial divorce.
This officially marked the first time that she addressed the public backlash against her, which started after word broke online that she staged her wedding and divorce for ratings and, of course, money.
She couldn't have, Kim stresses, as the video below will confirm. She even has the perfect argument: she's a smart businesswoman; had she decided to stage her marriage for the cameras, she would have made sure it lasted longer than 72 days.
“If you really think about it, if this was a business decision and I really made all that money that everyone was claiming that we made off this wedding, if the wedding was fake and just for TV,” Kim explains.
“I would have stayed married longer. This was a bad business decision, you know what I mean? So, if you really think about it, it doesn’t make sense that everyone says that,” she says, trying to prove her point.
In the end, she's still pretty much mystified at how people reacted to the news that she was getting divorced.
“Um, so I really didn’t know that following my heart would create this much backlash,” she says, claiming to be ever the hopeless romantic.
“I definitely tried everything I felt like I could, but I would also hear stories of people who had kids and started this life and stayed married for years and it ended up not working out,” she says, when Kelly Ripa asks her whether she thinks time could have solved some of the issues she had with Kris.
“I just felt like if I don’t feel in my heart this is right then why wait years to have the same result?” Kardashian adds.
