Kim Kardashian says she wanted marriage to Kris Humphries to “last forever”

Kim Kardashian wants out of the marriage with Kris Humphries, after only 72 days of not-quite marital bliss. In a statement to E!, the reality star confirms what the tabloids have been saying for weeks: her marriage is over.

The statement doesn't say why she believes she and Kris are no longer marriage material or mention anything about the kind of issues they had to make her come to this decision, as SheKnows also points out.

It does, however, confirm beyond any trace of doubt that Kim is determined to put an end to the marriage.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision,” Kim says.

“I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best,” she adds in the same statement.

Oddly enough, it seems that she didn't even bother to inform Kris about her intention of filing for divorce before she actually filed the papers, if we're to believe Kris' statement.

He says he's “blindsided” by Kim's actions and is still committed to making the marriage work and would do anything he can to save it, as we also informed you just minutes ago.

On Twitter, reaction to the divorce news is ranging from hilarious to troubling.

Kim's sister Khloe Kardashian says that the family has been at the receiving end of hate mail since the news broke, taking to her official page to thank supporters and scold haters.

“Reading some these comments r so hurtful. Im grateful 4our fans who understand & r being respectful. Hate is disgusting. Love is everything,” she says.

“Thank God for family. We are strong and we will only become closer! I love YOU,” Khloe adds.

At the same time, those who aren't fans but aren't actual haters either choose to see the fun side in this, especially since there's a pretty good chance the marriage was, from the get-go, just a storyline for Kim's reality show.

#ThingsLongerThanKimsMarriage is now trending on Twitter, with countless tweeps (Twitter users) joining in the conversation to put in their 2 cents on things that last longer than Kardashian's marriage to Humphries.

Thus, we learn that one of Lindsay Lohan's lines of coke is longer than the marriage, as also is the pause Dora the Explorer makes right after asking a question.

Another popular tweet is that the time it took to watch the Kardashian wedding special on E! can top in length the time they were married.
