14 DAY TRIAL // Kanye West surprised Kim Kardashian on her birthday by asking her to marry him, with the proposal and engagement party believed to have set him back about $6 million (€4.35 million), diamond ring included. One theory now making the rounds in the blogosphere is that Kanye’s proposal was entirely stage-managed by Kim and momager Kris Jenner.
Kim Kardashian is the perfect example of how you can succeed in the industry without actually being particularly talented at anything, except for knowing how to create media attention out of nothing.
If anyone, she would be the one to know the exact importance, publicity-wise, of getting engaged to Kanye West, out of all the high-profile male celebrities. On the same note, she would also know how to stage-manage such an event as to make sure she got the most out of it, both in terms of attention and of money.
As such, it’s probably no surprise that rumors are making the rounds about how she was involved in every step of the planning of the engagement party, from picking out the ring to choosing the venue where the proposal would take place.
Radar Online, for one, claims that Kim picked the diamond ring that Kanye later paid for, and that Kris Jenner, her mother and manager, was right there besides her all along.
Kanye might have said in recent interviews that he had no intention of turning his personal life into tabloid fodder but, if this is true, he definitely went one step further into that direction.
Kim planned everything in advance, down to the last detail, including how much Kanye should pay for the ring considering the publicity the engagement would bring to jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. Weighing an impressive 15 carats and being a flawless square stone, it is believed to be worth $3 million (€2.17 million), but he only paid $500,000 (€362,608) for it.
Now that they’re engaged, Kim is getting ready for a full-on media blitzkrieg, which will culminate, of course, with her wedding, which she plans to top her lavish nuptials to Kris Humphries of a couple years ago.
“She may even have this one be more over-the-top than her wedding to Kris, with several possible ceremonies and receptions. Kim wants Nori to walk down the aisle as a flower girl,” an insider says for Radar.
Somehow, none of this seems too far-fetched.
