The curvaceous star and her husband are the new stony faces of Balmain Spring / Summer 2015, with the campaign called Army of Lovers. These two have used this dead-eyed look quite a lot in public in recent months, but they now get the chance to use it for high fashion.
Kim is “arriving” as a fashion icon
Ask Kanye how beautiful and special and groundbreaking Kim Kardashian is and you will probably get a lesson in what fashion and A-list mean. She is not just a reality star who got her start by having her own personal adult tape “leak” out, she is the Marilyn Monroe of our times, with impeccable fashion taste and a body that would make anything look good – so says Kanye.
Also according to him, whoever doesn’t see Kim as the ultimate fashion icon / trendsetter must be green with jealousy at her success and her overall amazingness.
Now the entire world can appreciate said amazingness, because Kanye (most likely) got her this impressive gig. The first ads are out, and they feature the two in a series of frozen, glamourous photos that are meant to make you think “high fashion.”
Don’t get us wrong, the fashion in the photos is beautiful, but there’s something about the overall feel of the spread that makes one think of the cold air in a morgue. To these two, high fashion is all about not smiling, or for that matter, having any kind of facial expression.
Hate her or love her, Kim is here to stay
Kim’s new fashion gig has put many a smile on celebrity pundits’ lips for the abovementioned reasons, but there’s no denying that she’s getting bigger every day. She really is “arriving” as a fashion icon, and without a doubt, she’s got Kanye to thank for that.
If you don’t remember, when they first started dating, he ransacked her closet and told her how to dress to be more fashionable. Today, her outfits almost always mirror his own, and she favors only somber colors and strict hairstyles. Again, because high fashion is all about not having any kind of fun.
Even though Kim is still one of the most debated celebrities of the moment, she is also the most popular. Whatever she does, whether it’s a fashion campaign, a racy photoshoot, get a new hairstyle, or even post a selfie on social media, becomes newsworthy because she’s got a huge fanbase that can hardly wait for an update on her seemingly glamorous life.
There’s a reason Kim Kardashian has been the most searched for celebrity online for several years now, and that’s because, no matter how vapid, superficial, dumb, or the opposite of all that we consider her, she manages to engage people like no other star. She’s not going anywhere.
