Kanye West, the most talented and versatile artist of our times (his words, not ours), attended a panel discussion in New York the other day and made it a point of letting the audience know that he only spends time with number-one people.
Of course, that also includes new wife Kim Kardashian.
Until not long ago, Kanye used to compare the reality television star to Marilyn Monroe, saying there was no other woman in showbiz able to influence and create trends like she was. He did say before that she was one of the most important people in the world but, since he married her, he “promoted” her to the “number one woman in the world.”
“I can’t be with any girl but Kim because that’s the girl I look at her pictures the most, I get turned on the most,” Kanye also told the panel, the Daily Mail informs.
The topic of the panel was “Translation: Technology, Culture, and Consumer Adoption: Learning to Read the Cultural Landscape,” but Kanye mostly talked about himself because, if you think about it, there is no bigger player in today’s cultural landscape than Kanye West. In Kanye West’s mind, at least.
“Throughout my entire life because of the way my parents raised me, I was like ‘I have to work with the number one.’ I can’t work with anyone but Jay Z because that’s the number one. I can’t represent any company but Louis Vuitton because that’s the number one,” the rapper continued.
“Before Obama, there was Jesse Jackson, there were different people, talking about blacks particularly in America that were not allowed to drink from the cleanest fountain, to work with the best resources. It’s like Michaelangelo told he’s not allowed to carve with marble but told he’s got to use cement or something like that,” he said.
It’s a good thing Kanye is allowed to work with the best because, otherwise, how could he go after William Shakespeare and Walt Disney? In case you didn’t know, Kanye is on a mission to become the best artist ever, in all fields, and he even said in a recent concert rant that he was only interested in dethroning “dead guys.” He probably believes he has no rivals alive.
While Kanye’s ego and clearly intoxicating delusion he’s permanently under have made him one of the most ridiculed celebrities of our times, he does deserve credit for being consistent, true to himself. Once he puts all these ridiculous things out there, he’s not taking them back and he sure isn’t about to apologize for offending anyone. Probably because no one but Kanye West (and Kim Kardashian, for sure) matters.
