In March this year, as Paris Fashion Week kicked off, Kim Kardashian arrived in the French capital with a beanie on her head. Its purpose would become clear within hours, when she and husband Kanye West stepped out for the first fashion show: she’d gotten a makeover and was now sporting platinum blonde hair styled in a long bob.

The new ‘do sparked comparisons to Draco Malfoy, the villain from the “Harry Potter” movie universe, but also to Marilyn Monroe. It’s the latter she’s exploiting on the cover of this month’s issue of Vogue Brazil.

Kim Kardashian as Marilyn Monroe

The magazine comes with dual covers, both of which push the idea of Kim as the modern-day Marilyn, a woman who combines bombshell looks and business smarts to the point of being a major force on the market.

You can find both covers, shot by famed photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, in the gallery below. Vogue has also released a third photo, presumably from the accompanying spread, but we can’t include it here because Kim is topless, protecting her modesty with her leather gloved arms.

The Marilyn vibe is strong in that one too.

More details are not available right now, but it’s probably safe to assume that the pictorial will also come with an interview with Kim, in which she will talk about her business empire, her private life, her family, the usual.

In the meantime, her fans have just these photos and the artsy Instagram video she posted to her feed, showing her getting all dolled up while Kanye’s “All Day” plays in the background. You know, in case you needed any more reminding that they’re a power couple.

The Marilyn comparisons are old, actually

Kanye was the first high-profile celebrity to compare Kim to Marilyn, in response to someone saying she had no value for modern culture because she didn’t “do anything.” She was to our culture what Marilyn had been in her time, a sex symbol, a woman who had achieved perfection in every way.

Kanye could be found here at fault for being subjective (after all, she is his wife!), but the comparison stuck.

Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, who also happens to be a good friend of Kanye’s, said last year: “I met her as the girlfriend of a good friend. I just wanted a moment with her to understand - and I fell in love. She's the Monroe of our age. People think she's like a doll, but actually she's tough and clever.”

Apparently, Vogue too thinks there’s some foundation to the comparisons if they styled her as Marilyn. This is Kim’s second Vogue cover so far.
