Kim Kardashian says she was misquoted, misunderstood on comparing divorce to battling cancer

All throughout the past week, Kim Kardashian had been at the receiving end of some harsh criticism for comparing her latest (second) divorce to beating cancer. She’s setting the record straight now.

As we also reported at the time, Kim sat down for an interview with The Guardian to promote her reality show and many other business endeavors.

Among other things, she defended her claim to fame and stressed that, while she was famous for nothing, she still deserved credit for outliving the standard 15 minutes in the spotlight.

She also talked about her divorce from Kris Humphries, to whom she was married for 72 days, apparently comparing the experience to beating cancer.

Her exact quote was:

“We had done filming our season at that point, so we decided to film for the wedding. And that was a decision that he and I made together. But I think that, with any decisions in life, like, I spoke to a girl today who had cancer and we were talking about how this is such a hard thing for her, but it taught her a big lesson on who her friends are and so much about life. She’s 18. And I was like, that’s how I feel.”

In other words, Kim was equating cancer with her divorce by saying a cancer patient had found strength in her example, after seeing the heartbreak she was going through in front of the camera.

On her official blog, Kim insists she was misunderstood and, as usual, misquoted.

“I want to clear something up for you all, because it seems that something I said has been taken way out of context, as is often the case with quotes pulled from interviews,” Kim writes to her “dolls.”

“In a recent magazine interview, I told of how I had called a female fan who was battling cancer, and she told me how she had watched the show and seen how I had faced my own struggles, and had been inspired by how I had found the courage to change a situation that was making me unhappy,” she adds.

“In no way was I comparing my own experiences to that of a cancer patient. I was merely talking about how there are times in your life, and everyone goes through them, when you find out who loves you enough to stand by you through thick and thin,” the reality star insists.

She goes on to say that she lost her father to cancer and saw her grandmother fight and survive the disease, so she knows a lot about how devastating it can be.

Consequently, she would never dare compare it with a divorce, as painful as this might be. Whatever comparisons she seemed to be making in the interview were just the result of one big misunderstanding.
