MegaUpload's Kim Dotcom is making a very risky bet, upset that his extradition hearing has been pushed back and that his business is going to stay closed that much longer.
Thus he's asking the US Department of Justice to unfreeze money for his legal defense. In exchange, he'll come to the US voluntarily.
"Hey DOJ, we will go to the US. No need for extradition. We want bail, funds unfrozen for lawyers & living expenses," he
tweeted.
He says he's now got millions of dollars to pay to his lawyers and doesn't have a cent to do it. A prolonged process means those bills will pile up. His lawyers currently work for free, in the hopes they'll get paid once they win the case.
He doesn't believe the US government will accept his deal, which is probably why he's making it, but he says he's prepared to go to the US if he's guaranteed a fair trial, funds for his lawyers and to support his family.
