Kim Delaney Escorted Off Stage at Philadelphia Military Event

As several media outlets have put it, this is one performance that isn’t going to win Kim Delaney any accolades in the future. The actress was at a military event in Philadelphia last week and had to be escorted off stage in the middle of her speech – that bad it was.
The actress, who was on “CSI Miami” until 2002 and is now starring in Lifetime’s “Army Wives,” was at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia for the Liberty Medal Award presentation to Robert Gates, former defense secretary.
The video below shows exactly what went wrong – so wrong that it turned Delaney into a viral star, most likely against her will.
The actress walked up on stage late, saying something about getting “confused” and then painfully struggled with her speech as members of the audience looked on, stunned.
She talked about serving “in active military duty family for five years” and recalling the many obstacles she had come across.
“I’ve seen soldiers come home with painful life altering injuries borne of their time and service. I’ve attended numerous military funerals, including that of my best friend’s son,” she said, slurring at times so badly it was a wonder she still kept going.
She then added that she never did any of the above – except as part of the character she plays on “Army Wives.”
“It’s all make believe. I do that as a job. It’s make believe. I have the luxury to do all of this on a television show,” Delaney said, appearing to turn things to her advantage.
Only she didn’t. At one point, a man’s voice can be heard reading her speech off the teleprompter and then , quite unexpectedly, a woman with headphones comes on stage and removes the actress.
While it’s clear (as seen in the video) that Delaney had serious issues reading the prompter, many voices online are also saying that she was most likely intoxicated, wherefrom the prompter issue.
It appeared Ms. Delaney was obviously unprepared for this speach; it also looked as if either the tele-prompter wasn't working properly or she was unable to read it. Either way, this if most unfortunate for her. She is an accomplished actress and I hated to see how badly she messed up an opportunity to make an historical speech to honor this well-deserving man. Very sad!

If she had a medical issue, most everyone would feel real bad. But if it is what most are speculating and its alcohol or drugs, then shame on her. I think its the latter and I don't feel sorry for her.
