The bitter custody battle between the former spouses Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin is nothing more than a he-said, she-said business, with the two stars throwing mud at each other through all available channels.

Yesterday morning, the Oscar-winning actress was due in court to answer to twelve counts of misdemeanor, including contempt of the court and violation of a judge's orders. Despite that, in 2004, both legal adversaries agreed that were to share the custody of their girl Ireland, problems surfaced again as Baldwin claimed in 2005 that his former wife was blocking his access to his daughter.

Alec claimed that Kim failed to comply with the judge's orders and that she prevented him to see his daughter as he had the legal right to do. Court papers filed on his behalf state that Basinger failed to inform Ireland's father that she would be out of town for a couple of days, so that he could take her to stay with him and that, on another occasion, she withheld information from him, relating to an unspecified injury Ireland sustained and that required medical attention.

The actress did not show in court for the hearing and had her lawyer to plead not guilty on all charges. The jurist who is overseeing the case set a date for earlier next year, stipulating that the case would be discussed and solved in a matter of a couple of hours, without a jury being present in the room. Nevertheless, if evidence shows that the actress did violate the custody terms, she can be sentenced to 60 days in jail and to a fine of $12,000, which is exactly what Baldwin is looking for.

'The charges are outrageous and my client is not guilty. She will be vindicated. It is a sad state of affairs when a father wants to imprison his daughter's mother and that they can't work things out among themselves', Basinger's attorney told 'People' immediately after the court was no longer in session.
