It is not clear whether the studio is still using the shooter genre

The team that has made the shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall for the PlayStation 4 at developer Guerrilla Games is at the moment focused on the creation of an entirely new intellectual property around which it wants to forge a new franchise.

Eric Boltjes, a lead designer on the project, tells Eurogamer that, "As a studio we do want to branch out, and we have started work on a new IP, something completely different to Killzone. I don’t want to say anything about it right now, but as a studio we do want to keep it fresh."

The entire studio was focused on creating the new PlaySation 4 shooter, but once their work was done, they were free to use their time to think of interesting ideas that could be exploited in the future.

Boltjes adds, "You have a room full of people and they all have a different idea of what they want to change about the game. They can’t do everything, especially if you only have two-and-a-half years to build it. So it’s streamlining that process of what we want to do to this is what we’re actually going to do. That’s the tricky part."

The developer is not ready to offer any kind of details about the new intellectual property that Guerrilla Games is working on and the studio itself might need more time before coming to a clear decision.

The company has so far only created first-person shooter titles and it will be interesting to see whether they plan to stay within the confines of the genre or if they want to try out something entirely new.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is designed to show off the impressive new power of the PlayStation 4 and will be offered when the device is out in November.

The team plans to create a more emotional single-player campaign and a solid multiplayer mode.
