Killzone: Shadow Fall has just received its Intercept add-on that brings forth a special cooperative mode filled with all sorts of fresh mechanics, including returning favorites from older games, such as jetpacks.

Killzone: Shadow Fall launched alongside the PS4 in November last year and impressed quite a lot of new console owners with the intense first-person shooter action it delivered. From the story campaign that showed off the gorgeous visuals of the game to the fluid multiplayer mode that emphasized player creativity via the custom Warzones, Shadow Fall was a success.

Since then, Guerrilla Games hasn't been resting on its laurels and has rolled out plenty of free patches and updates complete with new maps and gameplay enhancements, but also paid DLCs, such as the Insurgent one.

Now, a brand new expansion has just been released by the studio, in the form of Intercept, which brings forth a special cooperative mode for the multiplayer experience.

"In this action-packed, online co-op expansion for Killzone Shadow Fall, you and three of your friends must try to establish a secure uplink to VSA headquarters from behind enemy lines while fending off an army of Helghast soldiers. To complete your mission, the four of you will have to rely on solid teamwork and make the most of your unique combat roles," the studio said on the PS blog.

Players will have to choose from one of four different classes and go up against waves of regular Helghast enemies, not to mention different bosses, across many arena-style maps.

"With four different combat roles to learn, four brand-new arena maps to explore, three powerful enemy bosses to defeat, and an endless supply of Helghast soldiers to overcome, this expansion will present a formidable challenge to even the most grizzled multiplayer veteran. Thankfully, you’ll be able to unlock powerful bonus abilities such as jetpacks and mortar strikes to temporarily help even the odds."

The Killzone: Shadow Fall Intercept expansion is available for 10 USD/EUR on the PlayStation Store, but those who got the Shadow Fall Season Pass will be able to download it for free.

Guerrilla Games has also pledged to offer a standalone version of the expansion in early August that will cost 20 USD/EUR.

Besides working on more free maps for the regular competitive multiplayer, the studio has also confirmed that it's going to bring forth more arena maps for the Intercept cooperative mode later this year.

As such, it seems that the game still has a lot of life left in it.
