Dan Calvert, the assistant art director working on Killzone: Shadow Fall, says that the power of the PlayStation 4 was required for his team to create some of the unique character design that will be seen in the first-person shooter.

He tells the Official PlayStation Blog that, “There were a couple of important things that we wouldn’t have been able to achieve on older consoles, and if we’d lost these they would have really compromised our vision for the Black Hand.”

The motions of the various characters are easier to simulate, as is the way they interact with their clothes and their weapons.

The new mechanics are used both for members of the new faction that Killzone introduces and the civilians that can be affected by their actions.

Shadow Fall will be launched exclusively on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and will be available when the new console is released.
