Killzone Mercenary, the PS Vita iteration of the first-person shooter series from Sony's Guerrilla Games studio, has just received a new update as well as a premium DLC pack called Botzone Soldier Training, which enables players to go up against bots offline in the multiplayer maps.

Killezone Mercenary delivered a pretty great experience last year when it appeared for the PlayStation Vita handheld platform, managing to successfully translate the first-person shooter experience onto the small device while introducing quite a few innovative elements.

The multiplayer mode was particularly praised but, as you can imagine, its popularity has dwindled due the presence of Killzone: Shadow Fall on the PS4 home console.

As such, in order to still allow Mercenary owners to experience the multiplayer, Guerrilla Games has confirmed that a new DLC pack is available, in the form of the Botzone Soldier Training one.

Like its name suggests, the new add-on brings a fresh mode called Botzone, in which players can go up against bots on the multiplayer maps.

"With the purchase of the 'Botzone Soldier Training Pack,' all of our multiplayer maps can now be played off-line in Mercenary or Guerrilla Warfare modes, against up to seven other AI soldiers. As the game host, you’ll have control over the number of team mates and enemies joining you in battle," the studio said about the new add-on on the PS blog.

Players can choose whatever squad and match configuration they want and they'll even be able to unlock the multiplayer-specific trophies included in Killzone Mercenary using the Botzone.

"Killzone Mercenary Botzone brings new skills to the series’ traditionally strong AI bot experience. Vanguard usage, zip line navigation, interrogations, rescues, capsule hacking and valour card collection are all behaviors unique to the game and our AI is going to challenge you with all of them. Not only that but our cunning bots will also be using many of the game’s diverse load-outs to stop you in your tracks," the studio added.

For those who don't want to buy the add-on, a free update is also coming out today, April 16, in order to fix some of the old collision issues that have been reported in the multiplayer maps. The patch is mandatory for those who want to continue playing online and occupies 23MB or 549MB if players have yet to download previous updates for the game.

The Botzone DLC for Killzone Mercenary costs 2.49 USD/EUR.
