Killzone 3, Guerrilla Games' newest iteration in its popular first-person shooter franchise will deliver a much more fluid experience, that varies locales a lot and allows for a wider variety of movements and actions.

Killzone 3 is set to really solidify the experience of its predecessor, which was released two years ago for the PlayStation 3, and will tweak the controls for a better response, as well as change up the scenery more to keep things interesting.

Speaking with Edge magazine, via CVG, Killzone 3 director Mathijis de Jonge detailed some of the improvements.

"[While] we were still tweaking and checking framerate, I checked this game back-to-back with Killzone 2 and have to say that it plays so much more fluidly. Also, the adjustments we made to lean-and-peek - you can actually slide into cover now, vault over, brutally melee your enemies - it feels more fluid, stutters less. There's fewer points of irritation."

He added, "[The] thing with Killzone 2 was there were some quite technical problems in the controls, actually, and I think we've solved those now.

"There was a lot of lag... by fixing those issues we've lost a bit of that weighty feeling. We've tried to maintain that original experience, but if we'd kept it as slow, we'd run into the danger of losing some people, moving too far away from our competitors."

While Killzone 2 was a very impressive game, many shooter fans complained that the controls were a bit slow, often meaning that their character would die before reacting to enemies on the screen.

Guerrilla Games boss Herman Hulst also emphasized that the levels in the game would be a bit more varied, to keep players hooked.

"A big improvement over Killzone 2 is that we're looking to have pretty much a unique setting for each level."

"We're going from the Helghast interpretation of jungle to very Killzone-esque scrapyards, and at the end we go into space. It's a big departure from Killzone 2, where the first five levels were all urban settings."

Killzone 3 will arrive exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on February 22 in North America, and one day later in Europe.
