Sony has high hopes

Sony boss David Reeves is saying that more than 1.1 million people have pre-ordered Killzone 2, the Guerrilla Games developed FPS for the PlayStation 3, which will be released at the end of February. The title is a PS3 exclusive and Sony hopes that it will revitalize the falling sales of the console.

Killzone 2 tells the story of the invasion of Helghan, the home planet of the Helghast, the red-eyed bad guys in the series. The player will be part of a squad of ISA soldiers who need to fight behind enemy lines. The game has impressive graphics and Sony claims it will be a must have first person shooter on the PlayStation 3.

The way Sony handled releasing the demo for Killzone 2 has caused a stir amongst gamers in the United States. European players who own a PS3 will get the demo this week as part of the normal PlayStation Store update and will be able to make an informed decision on the game, while those interested in Killzone 2 living in the United States will need to have a special card, which GameStop gives from pre-ordering the title in order to get the same demo. Sony might face less than expected day one sales in the United States because of this decision, as players will wait rather than pick up a game they have had little play time with.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is saying that it has set a bundle exclusive to the markets in Europe. Gamers who get it will receive an 80 GB hard drive PlayStation 3 console, a copy of Killzone 2 and a DualShock 3 controller. The only price point we have at the moment is 299.99 Pounds for Great Britain, while prices for the rest of Europe will be announced before the release date of the game.
