Don't bend over for the soap... OK, cheap joke...

I will always remember Kiefer Sutherland as a melancholic musketeer in a movie in which he starred long before he became a household name by playing Jack Bauer on the hit TV series "24". His character was drunk for about half the movie, and I always imagined he was a great actor for faking it so well. But judging from the latest news, it seems that he may have not been faking it all along - or maybe not all the time. We all know good ol' Kiefer has a problem with alcohol - but now it seems that it finally caught up with him and bit him hard in the a*s.

So much so, actually, that the actor started his 48-day prison sentence yesterday. He was busted for a DUI back in September, but trouble was he was already on probation for another drink-driving offense - so instead of getting the celebrity treatment he was sentenced not to 24 hours, but to 48 days in the clink - Glendale City Jail, California to be more precise.

"Sutherland will be serving the 48 days in the Glendale City Jail, with no early release and no good time or work time credit, so we expect that he will serve the entire 48 days in jail" reads a statement from the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. Apparently, he will not be lying in his cell feeling sorry for himself, either. To add insult to injury, Sutherland will serve as a sort of waiter for the other inmates, helping serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

"I'm very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I'm deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on '24' and at 20th Century Fox" he said in a statement released at the time of his second arrest. "I appreciate the support and concern that has been extended to me these last weeks both personally and professionally". Well, yes, I suppose we'll talk some more once he gets out of the clink - and let's hope his special agent training will prove of some assistance for the time he serves. Hopefully.
