Stars come out in Los Angeles for fun-filled gala, get slimed

The most fun-filled awards gala out there took place the other night in Los Angeles, with some of the biggest stars in showbiz showing up for it: Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2014. Some of the celebrities went home with an award, some got covered in green slime, but all of them had a lot of fun.

As with each edition, this year too the nominees were divided into 4 major categories, television, film, music, and “other.” Throughout the gala, stars like Selena Gomez, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, and Pharrell Williams, to name just a few, took to the stage, either to collect an award or to introduce a winner.

To the delight of the audience, some left the stage covered in bright green slime: getting “slimed” is a tradition with the Kids’ Choice Awards and all stars who end up getting said treatment are usually in on the joke.

This year, they were Mark Wahlberg, Pharrell, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Austin Mahone, Cody Simpson, and David Blaine. Mark’s own kids “turned” on him and helped Kevin Hart in setting him up to be slimed, but, as you can probably tell from the photo above, he didn’t mind.

Of course, at this point, Mark would probably do anything to promote his latest movie, Michael Bay’s fourth “Transformers” installment, “Age of Extinction,” so getting slimed is perhaps the least of them. The film drops in theaters this year and will stand apart from the previous three, which had Shia LaBeouf as leading man – so Mark has been putting in the extra hours to get more people interested in it.

As for the winners: in film, “Hunger Games” cleaned up the gala, which is hardly surprising since the awards are based on public vote. Robert Downey Jr. also scooped up an award for his role in “Iron Man” and delivered a speech as touching and funny as we’ve come to expect from him.

“This is the highest honor yet bestowed on me. I'm grateful, humble, the whole deal,” he said of winning Favorite Male Buttkicker. “You know I wasn't always a buttkicker. In fact, life has kicked my proverbial butt countless times in many ways for many years, until I decided one day to start kicking back. Now look at me!”

Selena Gomez and One Direction were the big winners in music, but Justin Timberlake, who wasn’t in attendance, also scooped up an award.
