In a recent interview, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of software development at Project Sora, has revealed some of his plans with regard to the online multiplayer component of Kid Icarus: Uprising. Apparently his team intends to include some kind of competitive play, but that depends also on the hardware on the Nintendo 3DS.

In the interview which will appear in the September issue of GamesMaster magazine, Sakurai said that, “The online capabilities are currently being tested. There could be some versus play but we can't go into any detail. There are a lot of capabilities that expand on what was in the DS that people are taking advantage of.”

Kid Icarus: Uprising is the first game in the series after a 20-year absence that will continue the story of the protagonist, Pit, as he fights Medusa's army. This time around he can fly thanks to Palutena, the goddess of light. The title will combine fast-paced ground flight combat with the capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS, promising to give Kid Icarus fans what they have been expecting for so long.

This is not the first time the online functionality of the Nintendo 3DS is talked about. A while ago, Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's president said that as long as the Wi-Fi was turned on and the 3DS had access to the Internet, the console would be in constant communication with its parent company, giving small bits of information intended to help Nintendo customize their offerings for the consumer. It is clear that the Japanese gaming giant really wants its latest console to take part in the online connected experience trend going on right now and there will probably be many games in the future that will take advantage of the network functionality of the Nintendo 3DS.
