No longer shall the memory card stick out like a sore thumb

The Jumpshot is our favorite Kickstarter project of the day, but there is another one that caught our eye, by virtue of being capable of adding extra appeal to a certain mini PC.

The Raspberry Pi is one of those innovative projects that lasted beyond its initial hype. Developers have released both hardware accessories and software for it, or ported popular programs and operating systems (like Android 4.0).

Needless to say, the device has been used in several projects as well, such as a light painting ring and to enable automatic image transfers on the Canon 5D Mark II camera.

What people haven't been talking about are the small item's shortcomings, mostly because there aren't any, nothing that the price can't offset anyhow ($25-35 / 20-28 Euro, around $50 /40 Euro with VAT and shipping costs).

Still, there is at least one thing that could be fixed, in the opinion of a certain “rwinscot,” who submitted an idea to Kickstarter.

He did not like how his SD memory card stuck out along the side of the small PC, so he made an adapter that sits above the SD card slot.

That way, a microSD can be used instead, at the cost of the Raspberry Pi ending up somewhat thicker than usual. The ENIG contacts of the pIO microSD adapter (that is the name) are made of gold.

As far as Kickstarter Projects go, this is one of the successful ones. Though it will be funded on September 6, it has already accumulated over ten times as much money as rwinscot expected.

We can only assume that there really are many people out there who own a Raspberry Pi mini-computer board. Then again, with supply selling out within hours, repeatedly, we aren't surprised to see evidence for this anymore.
