It is a fourth of the size and a sixth of the weight of a normal charger

Laptops are all well and good, but to truly make the best of them on a long trip you need to take along a bag with all the accessories, especially the charger. The charger which can be really bulky and heavy, sometimes as heavy, if not heavier than the laptop itself.

You can finally put an end to those days thanks to the Dart charger that we let you all know about the other day. Or at least you will be able to put an end to those days by November. Maybe.

The plans are all in motion, as the device has already raised the money it needed on the crowd-funding website known as Kickstarter.

Normally, we would be skeptical. Considering that the minimum pledge is of $89 / €89, it could go either way. Sure, it's a lot lower than the $120 / €120 retail price that FINsix plans for, but it's still quite a bit for a charger alone, although some may disagree.

It hasn't really helped that international buyers have to fork up $130 / €130, and that owners of the MacBook need to pay $199 / €199 (Dart for MacBook or the Custom Dart).

Despite all that, though, the device has already exceeded its funding goal of $200,000 / €145,000. You'll have to hurry up and pledge cash soon if you want one. There's a limited supply offer after all, although if the pre-orders get exhausted there's still a set priced at $148 / €148. Orange, Gunmetal, Silver, Blue and Magenta are the color options.

Design-wise, the Dart doesn't really look like a laptop charger, but more like something you would expect to use to replenish the energy of your smartphone.

Nevertheless, FINsix promises that Dart can, thanks to very high frequency (VHF) power conversion, recharge laptops just fine.

What's more, it even boasts a 2.1 Amp / 10.5 Watt in-line USB port, allowing you to charge your phone or other mobile gadget at the same time.

So, basically, we suppose you could say that as long as an electronic device doesn't need more than 65W, Dart can recharge anything.

The first batch of Dar chargers will ship in November, after which they should always be available through retail stores. Make sure you store it safely once you have it though, and that you explain what it does to your family and friends. If not for the power plug, it would probably be mistaken for a flash drive units, seeing how small it is.
