Eat the right foods for the right bacteria in your body, Dr. Oz says about his new diet

Unless you have a will of steel, you too probably overate over the holiday season and, as such, are packing a few extra pounds right now. If you’re looking for a healthy diet to help you lose the excess weight but to also make you healthier and happier, Dr. Oz’s new 2-week plan might be just the trick for you.

Dr. Oz says that he isn’t aiming just for weight loss with the new plan but also to help you get rid of that bloated feeling that’s bound to ruin your day. In order to do both, he says, you must know which foods to eliminate that are bad for you because they feed the “fat bacteria” in your body.

The first one would be ripe bananas. Dr. Oz says that green bananas feed the skinny bacteria in the gut, as opposed to the ripe fruit. If you’re not a fan of green bananas, he suggests making a smoothie with them to make them more palatable.

The 2-week plan also cuts out wheat (except for ½ cup of brown rice), artificial sweeteners (including diet soda), white sugar, alcohol, coffee, and dairy (except for Greek yoghurt).

Artificial sweeteners don’t work except to remind the brain to crave for something sweet, Dr. Oz says. Coffee too works in about the same way, in that people tend to add a lot of calorie-laden things to it, like milk and sugar or the complimentary doughnut. So, while coffee itself might not be bad for the figure, for many it is because they don’t enjoy it on its own, black.

Dr. Oz’s 2-week program doesn’t include additional exercise than the recommended 30 minutes a day, but stipulates that you should not eat anything between 8 at night and 8 in the morning. So drop that treat / midnight snack because it’s bad for you.

“By loading up on healthy food, like low-glycemic vegetables and small portions of protein, you can help curb your cravings and give your body a healthy start to the year. Plus, all of the meals can be automated and prepped, so you can drop pounds without spending a ton of time in the kitchen doing prep work,” he says.

“On this plan, you can eat all the low-glycemic veggies you want. Not only will they help you stay full, but they are key to helping burn fat. When you swap out starchy and sugary foods for low-glycemic vegetables, your body can burn through its glycogen storage and eventually start burning fat,” Dr. Oz continues.

As expected, he provides recipes and more advice in downloadable format on his website. Dr. Oz guarantees a 10 pound (4.5 kg) weight loss in these 2 weeks.
