Fx compatibility issues with your peripherals on Windows 8.1

Some users are reporting that their keyboards and mice stopped working after installing Windows 8.1, but Microsoft is yet to release a workaround or a patch to address this issue.

At the first glance, it could all seem like a problem caused by incompatible drivers, but it turns out that installing the latest version of the drivers does not make any difference.

One of the users who turned to Microsoft’s Community forums to report the problem has apparently found a quick fix that comes down to turning off a feature in the BIOS menu.

So, if you’re experiencing the same problems with mice and keyboards on Windows 8.1, here’s what you need to do:

First of all, reboot your computer and access the BIOS menu. Look for the UEFI settings and enter the “Advanced” mode. Select the “Intel XHCI Mode” option and turn it off. Save the new BIOS settings and restart the machine.

In case these settings are missing from your computer, make sure that you are running the latest BIOS version for your PC.

As usual, you are strongly recommended to create a backup or a restore point before anything, just to make sure that you are on the safe side in case something goes wrong and either the operating system fails to work correctly or other peripherals are no longer detected by your Windows 8.1 PC.
