Mountain View-based Google is reportedly hard at work with the release of the next major flavor of its Android operating system, and should have it ready for deployment sometime in fall.

The platform, long rumored to arrive on devices under the name of Key Lime Pie, should be launched as Android 5.0, provided that previous rumors on the matter pan out.

According to a recent article on The Wall Street Journal, the platform will be released this fall with optimizations for low-end devices.

Apparently, the fact that Motorola’s upcoming Moto X phone will be only a mid-range device is a proof of that.

Before this OS flavor, however, Google is expected to launch another platform upgrade, supposedly called Android 4.3, one that might arrive on devices as soon as the next month.
