Kevin Federline hated the fact that he was in the spotlight post-Britney Spears split, especially as the pounds kept piling on and he had serious issues with shaking them off, but he’s now ready for his comeback. Almost a decade after the breakup of their marriage, Kevin is trying to get back on the scene as a DJ.

He performed his first gig over the weekend in Orange County, opening the set with one of Britney’s most famous tracks. He admits in an interview with Access Hollywood (see the videos below) that this was his “wink” to the audience, an ice-breaker meant to make him less nervous as well.

K-Fed talks Britney, is surprisingly mature

Kevin Federline and Britney Spears were tabloid fixtures while still a couple for a very good reason: at the time, they were young and had no filter in their interactions with the media, whether spontaneous or not.

They would also go heavy on the TMI, sharing with the fans aspects of their private life that perhaps not even diehard fans would have wanted to know, had they been given the chance.

Kevin is no longer that man, as you can see for yourself: pressed for details about Britney and their life together (years before, in a context in which he is now remarried - and happily so) by Billy Bush, he manages to keep his cool and deliver polite, albeit somewhat vague responses to all his questions.

In handling the questions with this kind of grace, though it’s clear that he would like the subject dropped altogether, Federline proves he’s more mature, more savvy in his dealings with the press, and more respectful.

By the way, he has nothing but nice things to say about his ex, whom he praises for co-parenting their adorable boys, and even nicer things to say about his current wife, Victoria Prince, with whom he also has 2 children.

Federline wants back in the limelight

As noted above, Kevin Federline is trying to launch a career as a DJ, which, apparently, is the hottest thing with a certain type of celebrities right now, i.e. those who are relatively out of options.

Paris Hilton is the best example in this sense, with reports saying she’s making a fortune off the gigs she books throughout the year. Infamous reality star Jon Gosselin is at the opposite pole, having made his debut as DJ some days ago, with a live audience of just 1. That is, only one woman showed up to check him out.

In the same interview, Federline says that he’s also started a new band and that they have a first single out. He doesn’t say whether they’ll also be releasing a full album, but chances are this is the plan.
