Before Kerry Washington hosted last week’s Saturday Night Live, producers and NBC came under serious fire for the lack of diversity of the cast, because the show doesn’t have a black female castmember.

As the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, join them. Producers decided to open Kerry’s episode with a lampoon of the controversy, even including a faux apology for having Kerry play all the female roles in the skit, including that of Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Beyonce.

You can see the opening embedded in the video below.

“We realize this is not an ideal situation,” read a statement that ran while “Michelle” ran backstage to change into “Oprah.”

“We look forward to rectifying it in the near future... unless, of course, we fall in love with another white guy first,” the statement also said.

To further drive the message home, producers included several Matthew McConaugheys, but it was Rev. Al Sharpton who actually delivered the punch line. Enjoy!
