Over the weekend, members of the Indonesian Hacker Team breached and defaced the official website of Kenya’s National Registration Bureau (identity.go.ke), an agency under the Ministry of Interior & Co-ordination of National Government.

According to a message posted by the hackers on their Facebook page, the attack was carried out in celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Day (August 17).

Kenya’s National Registration Bureau is the agency in charge with the identification and registration of Kenyan citizens, the detection and prevention of illegal registration, the production and insurance of secure IDs, and the management of a database containing all registered individuals.

Currently, the organization’s website appears to be working properly.

A report released recently by Kenya’s TESPOK has revealed that most of the malicious software found on the country’s computers comes from China, the United States and Korea.
